Disney's Frozen - The Musical

Image
Visited-11 th May 2022 (Drury Lane London)   Theatre: Frozen is currently open in one of the most popular and historic theatres in London, Drury Lane. The theatre has recently been through a huge restoration, and everything about it looks stunning. As soon as you walk in, the entrance is hall is so grand, it felt more like a museum, and I felt quite under-dressed. There is a beautiful bar on the right hand side, a champagne bar in the centre of the foyer, and a grand staircase, all surrounded by paintings. The theatre itself is stunning with so much history, dating back to the 1600s.  Story: The story closely follows the highly successful 2013 film, with some references to Frozen 2, and further character development. Cast: The whole cast for this musical was just perfect. I was lucky enough to see the full cast, without any understudies. Stephanie McKeon as Anna played the role as Anna perfectly. Vocally she was amazing, especially with ‘Let it Go’, and ‘Monster’.

Back to the Future - The Musical

Visited- Wednesday 9th February 2022 (Mattinee show) Venue - Adelphi Theatre, London Similar to Prince of Egypt, Back to the Future The musical premiered in February 2020 in Manchester, just before the pandemic. Moving to the Adelphi Theatre in 2021 as its new home, this brand new musical had so much hype from lovers of theatre, and back to the future fans. Before seeing this, I stayed clear of spoilers, visiting the venue back in 2021 to discuss sound design made me want to see this, just based on the sheer scale of the production.   Foyer As you head upstairs to the Dress Circle, there is a huge clock tower in front of the window. I feel like this is a hidden gem for those sat upstairs. The upstairs bar and merchandise stand is all themed, with 80s music being played. For me, this made the musical more like an immersive experience. I’d definitely recommend those in the stalls to have a look upstairs before the show starts. Story The story follows the much beloved film fr

Going to the Theatre Alone - My experience & Tips

Image
This blog is going to be different, but one of my biggest achievements since end of 2021 is having the confidence to experience live theatre on my own.  My first time going to the theatre alone was Prince of Egypt. This was the second time I saw this show, after spending a day doing a sound mixing course for live theatre. On this occasion, I didn’t feel much anxiety as I’ve already seen the show, and I knew what to expect. Going for a drink prior did feel a little daunting, but I was taking in the overall atmosphere. Looking at the excitement of couples & families, some experiencing theatre for the first time. On this occasion, I sat in the middle Isle, a little closer from the first visit, to get a better view of the stage due to the overhang. Although the view was great, I was surrounded by rude individuals which spoiled the experience slightly.   Back to the Future the Musical was my first full day trip to the capital on my own. This was booked in December during t

Visited Friday 19 th November 2021   We grew up with the Harry Potter films as kids, with Deathly Hallows part two released when I was 12. Every year, I re-watch the series without fail, I fall in love with the franchise even more, and it’s taught me some important life lessons; The importance of Friendship throughout life. To talk about your emotions Having the strength to do things on your own. This website sums it up perfectly - https://au.reachout.com/articles/9-things-we-can-learn-from-harry-potter After visiting the studios in October and meeting new Harry Potter Fans, it made me realise just how much the franchise is loved by millions. When the show debuted in 2016, I stayed away from spoilers, and didn’t read the play script until after the show, so I went in completely blank. This was my most anticipated show on the west end for over 5 years, and we finally managed to get tickets. Plot The story follows on from the last scene in the Deathly Hallows Part

School of Rock

School of Rock The Musical - Thursday 9th September 2021, Hull New Theatre Well, this blog is a month late, but it's given me some time to appreciate and enjoy parts of the show I missed when watching for the first time, as a recording of the show is available on YouTube which I saw after. The School of Rock is one of my favourite feel good comedies. I remember watching this when I was 9 and instantly fell in love with this film. For me, this film ages like fine wine, and it's one of those films I turn to if I’m feeling down in the dumps. The majority of jokes in the film are not outdated and the songs are still great to this day, I appreciate the lyrics more now i'm older, especially in songs like 'Fight' and 'Heal Me'. Oh and fight will always be the best song to open the film. I had mixed hopes going into this show. Knowing it's done by Andrew Lloyd Webber, I was concerned they would turn a strong film, into a cheesy production with cringy song

The Prince of Egypt The Musical - Thursday 2nd September 2021

I have to start off this blog by saying, this is my first ever show at the West End.  I've loved theatre all my life, whether it's outdoor acrobatic performances, drama productions, to Musicals and pantomimes, it's a way to escape reality for a couple hours. I've seen many different shows over the years, I'll make a blog on some recent shows I watched before the pandemic, but I was very excited to see how the production varied compared to a touring show at a local theatre. As we bought our tickets the night before, our seats were towards the back, and cost us approximately £25 each. We still had a good view of the stage.  In regards to Covid safety, the majority wore face masks inside the venue, which was reassuring. The track and trace system was in place, but this wasn't checked by any members of staff. However, as we were fully vaccinated, we felt very safe. And my advice if anyone is anxious in seeing this show, it was probably the safest I've ever felt
